Spar

Stone History

"Spar" is a general name for a group of minerals, including varieties such as feldspar, calcite, and fluorite. The history of spar is closely connected with its use in construction, jewelry, and industry over many centuries.

The word “spar” comes from the German term “Spat,” which means “to cleave.” This refers to the typical property of minerals in this group to break along flat surfaces. German miners originally used the term to describe minerals with good cleavage. The word was later adopted into English as “spar.”

Zodiac

Spar, depending on its variety, can resonate with different zodiac signs. The most universally associated are:

  • Aries: Feldspar, especially labradorite, helps Aries balance impulsiveness, enhances intuition, and supports inner peace.

  • Capricorn: Calcite strengthens Capricorn's stability and determination, improving discipline and supporting the achievement of goals.

  • Pisces: Fluorite enhances Pisces’ intuition and emotional balance, helping them navigate life’s challenges and stimulating creative energy.

  3. Pink – Pink feldspar, known as orthoclase, is fairly common.

  4. Yellow – Seen in fluorite and calcite specimens.

  5. Green – Found in fluorite and certain feldspars.

  6. Blue and Gray – Labradorite, a type of feldspar, is known for its iridescent blue and gray shimmer.

  7. Purple – Fluorite can exhibit a vibrant purple hue.
