     Onyx is a variety of chalcedony, a form of quartz distinguished by its banded structure. The name "onyx" originates from the ancient Greek word “ὄνυξ,” meaning “claw” or “fingernail,” referring to its smooth, shiny surface that resembles a polished nail.

  1. Ancient Egypt: Onyx was popular in ancient Egypt, used for making amulets and jewelry due to its protective properties. Egyptians also used it in rituals and ceremonies as a defense against evil spirits.

  2. Roman Empire: In Ancient Rome, onyx was highly valued and used for making seals, as it was easy to carve and retained fine details. It was considered a stone of luck and protection, often featured in jewelry.
